Afinia printers are not small investments, so it’s important to learn how to upkeep the printing solutions and their components. One part, in particular, being the Afinia Maintenance Module. If you’d like to extend the lifespan of your printhead, it’s recommended that you replace the maintenance module after the printhead is replaced for a second time. Read with Chicago Color Label as we dive into what a printer maintenance module is, as well as how you can keep your printhead in good condition for an extended period of time.
What is a Printer Maintenance Module?
Your Afinia Maintenance Module cleans and caps the printhead. If there is an issue with your printer maintenance module, it will impact printhead life and print quality. Fortunately, you can service your maintenance module at any time.
How to Make Your Printhead Last Longer
While the printer maintenance module is designed to help extend the lifespan of your printhead, there are also other ways to make your printhead last longer, such as:
- Using your printer regularly: Using your printer on a regular basis helps keep the printheads clear and the ink flowing properly; this prevents the printheads from drying out. If you don’t use your printer for weeks or months at a time, the ink on the printheads will likely dry up and cause a clog.
- Cleaning your printheads regularly: To remove any ink that’s lingering on the printhead, it’s recommended to use your printer’s cleaning cycle at least once a month. You can also use canned air to remove any tiny pieces of paper that have gotten stuck inside the machine. Make sure to remove the printhead and store it safely away if you plan to blow the printer out since the dirt and debris you stir up could get stuck to the printheads nozell surface.
- Store your printer material properly: If you don’t plan on using your printer for a while, take out the ink cartridges and store it in the orange protective cap it came in. If you didn’t save the cap, rinse the printhead with distilled water, drain any excess liquid and stor the printhead in a Ziplock bag with a damp paper towel. Make sure to lay the printhead on it’s side instead of resting it upright. The nozell should never touch a surface if possible.
