Reduce Cannabis Label Printing Costs

There are numerous benefits of bringing cannabis label printing in house.  The most important of which is that printing through an external vendor requires a minimum order quantity which can easily result in loss of revenue from over ordering.  Those who take label printing in house enjoy increased flexibility by being able to update their packaging as needed and are able to only print what they need.

Tailor Your Labels to Meet State Regulations

As cannabis products are not federally legal in the United States yet, regulations vary heavily from state to state.  It’s important to ensure your labels are compliant with regulations for the states you plan to market your products in.  Check out our THC Labeling requirements page for more information!

How to Print Custom Cannabis Labels

1) Select the type of material you would like to use to print the label.

When printing labels for your products there are many factors to consider, first of which being what material to choose.  The most common choices are paper or Biaxially-oriented polypropylene (commonly referred to as BOPP) labels.  Paper labels have the advantage of being less expensive to produce while offering a wide array of colors and weathering options to get that look and feel just the way you want it! This makes paper labels a great option for dry goods packaging such as jars or bags.

However, paper labels are less water resistant, durable, & have a shorter shelf life than their BOPP counterparts. BOPP labels boast excellent water and abrasion resistance which makes them great for tinctures, resins, & drinks.  BOPP labels also offer increased flexibility which makes them suitable for irregularly shaped packaging!  The main downside to BOPP labels is that they don’t offer the same print sharpness as paper labels and have a comparatively higher production cost.

2) Choose the Right Printer, Ink, & Application Methods for You

Once you’ve decided on the material of your packaging, it’s vital that you use the proper ink & application methods to ensure that your product’s label stays pristine on its journey to your customers.
